A legendary high school baseball coach announced his retirement this week as Doug Lavalley is finally done with Guilderland varsity high school baseball.  I have known Coach Lavalley for years and he is an awesome coach and an even better person.  We go way back to Guilderland Little League and he has had some great teams with some great players.  Some have even gone on to the next level.  He is a great man and he will be missed for Section II baseball as he is so well liked and respected.  Below is my quick take on this as seen in The Times Union:

Won’t be same watching Guilderland varsity baseball team play next season without Doug LaValley in the dugout. LaValley who is retiring after 22 seasons as the head coach is an icon with Guilderland baseball. He won 260 games and multiple championships and was named coach of the year times but he will be remember for how he treated his players and the knowledge he bestowed upon them. He’s a true baseball guy who loves the game but he’s an even better person. Great ride Doug but it’s time. Time to go watch your grandson play and teach him the game like you for decades at Guilderland.

Whoever is the next head coach at Guilderland has some very big shoes to fill but I know they fill find a great replacement for a head coach here soon.
