Huerter Honored at NYS Capitol

The accolades and accomplishments keep rolling in for Shen senior basketball star Kevin Huerter. The Maryland-bound senior already won his second straight Section II championship this year and earned New York State Mr. Basketball, and now he's receiving praise from the political world.

Huerter was honored at the state capitol on Tuesday by Senator Kathy Marchione. Present with him in the picture is his father Tom (2nd from left in right photo), Shen Athletic Director Chris Culnan (first from left in right photo), Shen basketball coach Tony Dzikas (2nd from right in right photo) and his mother Erin (far right in right photo).

Huerter averaged more than 21 points a game this season for Shen, the power that went unbeaten this season in Suburban Council and Section II play. The Plainsmen didn't lose until the State Final Four. They won the State Title a season ago as Huerter carried the team.

He had more than 20 scholarship offers from Division I programs before deciding on Maryland.
