Earlier in the Spring, we found out that Maple Hill graduate Jaime Schultz would be getting an invitation to major league Spring Training with the Tampa Bay Rays, and now we find out that Shaker High School graduate Jeff Hoffman has the same invitation to Rockies camp.

Hoffman, the No. 9 pick in the 2014 Major League draft, missed the 2014 season after undergoing Tommy John Surgery. He was taken by the Blue Jays but was traded to Colorado last summer in the blockbuster Troy Tulowitzki-Jose Reyes deal.

In that deal, he was reported to be the centerpiece.

Hoffman throws anywhere between 94-99 MPH and is projected to be a front-line major league starter. Last season, across two organizations and two levels, he went 5-5 with a 3.03 ERA. He had 75 strikeouts in 104 innings in his first pro season.

Hoffman is a guy who could accelerate through the Rockies system quickly. Maybe he'll even make an appearance at Coors Field this season.
