Former Arizona Coyote John Scott wasn't supposed to be at the NHL All-Star Game, but the fans voted him in. He was also not supposed to be the MVP after the NHL left him off the ballot, but the fans voted him the MVP, much to the demise of the NHL.

Scott, a veteran journeyman enforcer was a write-in candidate for MVP of the first NHL All-Star Game featuring the new 3-on-3 format. He scored twice in the tournament, both in the semifinal round as he helped lead his team to an All-Star Game victory.

"You can't write this stuff," Scott said, "It's unbelievable."

Scott was the centerpiece of much controversy over the past few weeks after the NHL tried to persuade him not to play in the game so that another player, or better player, could have the privilege of playing in the coveted game. He beat out a number of well-deserved players especially due to his lack of numbers. Over 283 career games, Scott has only 5 career goals. Scott turned down the NHL's attempts and decided to play in the game. The rest is history.

Players rallied around Scott and he helped captain the Pacific team to a win in the event. There's no doubt that this situation made the NHL look bad, yet may have gained them more fans in the process.
