Mr. New York Basketball 2019 might be getting an opportunity to continue his basketball career in the Empire State.

Joseph Girard III, who was born in Glens Falls, recently completely his collegiate basketball career. Girard spent four seasons with the Syracuse Orange, before transferring to Clemson for his final year of eligibility, which was granted to all NCAA athletes because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Now, Girard is looking to make the jump to the professional ranks, and has already begun working out for a few notable NBA franchises. Check out this update on JG3, courtesy of the great folks at NOVUS Clothing Company:

How exciting is that? Girard, who holds the New York State high school basketball career point record with an eye-popping 4,763 points, is set to work out for the New York Knicks on Wednesday.

Girard started garnering attention for his basketball skills in fifth grade, when, according to The Athletiche won a national foul shooting contest by making all 25 shots. He started playing at the varsity level for Glens Falls High School as an eighth grader, and averaged over 20 points in each of his five seasons in high school:

  • 8th Grade: 21.7
  • Freshman: 33.9
  • Sophomore: 36.4
  • Junior: 50.0
  • Senior: 48.6

Girard committed to Syracuse, turning down offers from schools such as Duke and Michigan in order to stay in New York. In four seasons with the Orange, Girard played in 125 games, and averaged 13.2 points and 3.6 assists per game.

During his one season with Clemson, he started all 36 games for the Tigers, and averaged 15.1 points.

Girard was never selected in the NBA Draft, so, with his collegiate career coming to a close, JG3 will look to catch on with a pro franchise through offseason workouts.

Maybe I'm biased, but I'm certainly hoping that the New York Knicks see enough from 2019's Mr. New York Basketball to offer him a contract.

More to come.
