Tom Coughlin stepped away yesterday from the New York Giants. After 12 seasons, two Super Bowl wins, and four straight playoff-less seasons, the Giants coach is done.

Coughlin stepped aside on his own the reports say. He was not fired. He had one year left on his contract.

After the announcement, his former players began to take to social media in defense and support.

Really a touching tribute from Tuck, especially the parts about his family and whatnot. You can tell that Tuck has a genuine respect and admiration for his former sidelines guy.

Tuck spent nine years in New York before moving onto Oakland (where he currently plays). He helped the Giants win both those Super Bowls and registered 60.5 sacks in a Giants uniform.

Coughlin has been the coach of the Giants since 2004. He finished his tenure with a career record of 102-90. Overall, he was 170-150. He spent eight years in Jacksonville before going to New York.
