There are people out there who just can't avoid the spotlight. Kyrie Irving is one of them. His week started out well on the court, he made headlines with a brash challenge, then watched it all fall apart with one bad decision.

At scrimmages between the US National basketball team and a group of younger stars, Irving impressed many with his play against some of the best point guards in the world. As if this wasn't noticed by basketball fans around the world, Irving made a move that was sure to get him noticed.

Irving did so by challenging Kobe Bryant to a game of one on one for $50,000.

50 grand to a boss ain't nothin' indeed, Kyrie. Irving was having one of the best weeks a player could hope for in the offseason. He just had to make sure he didn't screw it up. He screwed it up anyway.

One day we will live in a world in which people who are paid to use their bodies to excel in athletic competition won't intentionally hit things and damage their hands. That day is not today, as Kyrie Irving has joined the likes of Amar'e Stoudemire and Kevin Brown as the latest to injure themselves hitting something out of frustration.

Irving, at a practice in Las Vegas for the NBA Summer League, committed a turnover and slapped a padded wall in frustration. The result was a broken hand, and a trip back to Cleveland to be examined by team doctors.

The Cavs believe he will be ready for training camp in September, but won't set a timetable for his return until he is examined on Sunday.

Even though it ended badly, if this is what every week is like for Kyrie Irving, I need more Kyrie Irving in my life. He continues to rise as one of the future faces of the NBA.
