Every baseball season, the months of June and July are often swarmed with trade rumors and potential changeups that will have a significant impact on the MLB season outcome.  Last year we saw the yankees make a big swing by acquiring Jazz Chisolm Jr from the Marlins.  After the Boston Red Sox put the baseball world on blast recently by trading franchise cornerstone Rafael Devers to the San Francisco Giants, we can say with pretty good certainty that this upcoming trade deadline is going to see some big name faces in new places.  If the Yankees want a shot at a world series, they'll need to be active at the deadline, but what names are most likely on the Yankees radar?

Team Needs:

There are two massive holes on this roster that are clearly the biggest needs for this Yankees team if they want a chance at winning.  Figuring out who is playing third base for them and bolstering this pitching staff is at the front of their minds.

Pitching candidates:

Pitching may get the edge as the more necessary improvement, as despite losing Juan Soto to the Mets and not finding a consistent third basemen, the Yankees still lead the majors in home runs and the AL in runs scored.  Whether they go after a starter or a bullpen arm remains to be seen, as strong returns from Luis Gil and Marcus Stroman could switch plans around.  Outside of Luke Weaver and Devin Williams, the bullpen has been inconsistent at best, while the starters have the 8th best ERA in baseball.

Some potential pitching targets could include Angels Tyler Anderson who is in the final year of his contract, Nick Martinez of the Reds who's posting a sub 4 ERA, or if they go for bullpen help, Nationals closer Kyle Finnegan has been very strong with 18 saves in 22 opportunities.

Infielders on the market:

The Yankees did great at making a much more well rounded lineup this offseason, but after losing Oswaldo Cabrera for the season, third base has become a carousel between young prospects and aging veterans.  A deadline acquisition could solve this lackluster production at the hot corner, and there's a few different options.

Nolan Arenado is the heavy favorite, but the veteran comes with 3 years and $74 million on his contract.  With the Astros also going after him, perhaps the Yankees, whom Arenado would prefer, revisit his availability.  Some other potential candidates include Ryan Mcmahon of the Rockies, the Angels Yoan Moncada, or Ke'Bryan Hayes from Pittsburgh.

The Yankees will certainly have a busy month of July around the deadline, and some of these targets could make big impacts in October in a potential World Series run.
