On the day Syracuse retired the number 15 worn by Carmelo Anthony, in front of what is believed to be the largest crowd in Syracuse history, and what is the final Big East regular season meeting between these two great rivals, the hometown Orange got squeezed 57-46 by the Georgetown Hoyas.

Georgetown trailed at the half in a tight fisted defensive battle 27-25, however they rode the coat tails of leading scorer Otto Porter who scored 33 of the Hoyas 57. Fire wouldn't describe Porter in his incredible performance. Against the famed 2-3 zone Porter shot 12/19 from the floor including 5 huge 3 balls in a shooting display they won't soon forget.

Syracuse was riding all that emotion and  the fact they had won a division 1 high 38 straight games on home court.  The 46 points scored by the Orange were their lowest Carrier Dome total ever. The building opened in 1980.

Georgetown used that same stingy defense they have been applying lately in winning for the 9th straight game. 17 times this season the "Hoya Destroya"  defense has allowed under 60 points. Georgetown has rallied from a mediocre start to the season to taking over 1st place in the Big East. These long time heated and at times hated rivals will meet for 1 final time in the regular season as members of the Big East on March 9th, the final day of the final Big East regular season.
