More Trouble Between Jets And Star Safety Jamal Adams
Reports are circulating that the New York Jets and star Safety Jamal Adams. The relationship between the Jets and Adams has been bumpy to put it best in the last year or so. Even though the two sides have had multiple talks since this year's NFL draft it appears they have hit an impasse. Could this be the end of Adams with Gang Green?
ESPN Jets' insider Rich Cimini is reporting that not only have the talks of an extension fallen off but apparently a trade is possible. Jets' General Manager Joe Douglas has been clear that he intends to make Jamal Adams a long term New York Jet, it appears the team isn't interested in putting pen to paper on a long term extension right now.
Per Cimini:
Adams, eligible for a new contract now that he has completed his third season, said in January he wants an extension by the start of the 2020 season. He's due to make $3.5 million in 2020. His salary jumps to $9.9 million in 2021, the amount of his fifth-year option.
Conversely, the Jets don't feel there's a sense of urgency because they have Adams under team control for at least two years; they also have the option of the franchise tag in 2022. Another component is the uncertainty created by the coronavirus pandemic, which could have a massive impact on NFL revenue.
Hopefully cooler heads will prevail and Adams will stay with the Jets.
