With high school basketball sectionals right around the corner, the Suburban Council's Blue Division is stacked with contenders; one of which might be something of a surprise this season.

Under first-year head coach Mike Grasso, Niskayuna is 11-6 with an 8-3 record in the division with only three regular season games remaining. Grasso has a long list of athletic success in the Capital Region and reviving a Silver Warriors basketball program is the latest. The son of legendary Bishop Maginn football coach, the late Joe Grasso, Mike has raised expectations for players and rebuilt confidence.

Grasso won two state championships as the offensive coordinator at Troy HS in 2016 and '17 and his own playing career took him to Rhode Island for football and to UAlbany for baseball before the Atlanta Braves drafted him.
