Olympic Hopeful? Clifton Park 13-year old Brings Home Bronze
As we get ready for the Winter Olympics in South Korea in less than a month, we may have yet another Olympic hopeful in the Capital Region. And maybe hopeful isn't generous enough of a term for Violeta Ushakova. The 13-year old figure skater from Clifton Park just recently won bronze at the National Championships in San Jose, California.
Violeta had a 2017 to remember after making a step up in competition; from the intermediate level to the novice level. At last year's U.S. National Figure Skating Championships, Violeta finished 6th as an intermediate competitor. This year, after winning the North American Atlantic Regional ladies competition and finishing second at the Eastern Sectionals, Violeta won bronze at Nationals.
