Out of This World! This New York Giants Legend is Going to Space
Michael Strahan has done just about everything. He's won a Super Bowl, he's been named to the Hall of Fame, and he's even hosted a talk show with Kelly Ripa.
He has not, however, travelled to space before. Well, not until now, that is.
Michael Strahan is Headed to Space!
As multiple sources, including ESPN reported, Strahan and Laura Shepard Churchley, the eldest daughter of late astronaut Alan Shepard, will be part of the group that flies on Jeff Bezos' Blue Origin flight on December 9th, 2021.
ESPN also reported that four paying customers will be a part of the journey.
Strahan and crew will travel high enough into the atmosphere to experience a brief period of weightlessness, and see the "curvature of the Earth" from their position.
Bezos' Blue Origin Project Has Joined the "New Space Race"
I am lucky enough to come from a family of aerospace engineers, so I have had a front-row seat to the many phases of "space races" that have hit our country. The most recent version of the space race is possibly the most aggressive yet.
Along with NASA, which continues to develop state-of-the-art space travel vehicles and apparatuses for the United States government, third-party contractors have entered the fold. Elon Musk created the "SpaceX" program, and has recently started experimenting in using technology to defend against "near-Earth" projectiles like asteroids.
Fellow billionaire Jeff Bezos has also entered the race with his Blue Origin aerospace manufacturing company. Bezos entered space in July in the first manned mission, and now, Michael Strahan will, too.
Michael Strahan is One of the Giants' All-Time Greats
In the last 30 years, few players have been more dominant at their peak than Michael Strahan. The star defensive end was a constant threat for opposing quarterbacks, especially in 2001, when he racked up a whopping 22.5 sacks, which led the league.
Strahan has always been an incredible ambassador for the Giants, and the game of football in America. He has transitioned flawlessly into his second career, becoming one of the most recognizable television personalities in the country.
Now, he's going where no Big Blue has gone before.
