Friday was the home opener for the Boston Red Sox, and they did so by beating the Tampa Bay Rays 12-2.  Unfortunately they also might lose Jacoby Ellsbury for a period of time.

The big win that the Red Sox had over the Rays on Friday is only over shadowed by the fact that their star center fielder Jacoby Ellsbury suffered a nasty shoulder injury sliding into second base.  It's not the sort of thing you want to see happen in mid April.

Ellsbury was taken to the hospital for further evaluation, but even his teammates could see that this injury may not be one they he will just bounce back from.  His arm was trailing behind his body as he slid towards second, and after that he was just rolling in the dirt in pain.

No news yet as to how long, or what the extent of the injury is.  Manager Bobby Valentine said they won't make any drastic roster changes just yet.
