Renssalaer Polytechnic Institute gets an early season hockey honor as Alexa Gruschow was named ECAC rookie of the week.

Gruschow had five points over the weekend leading the Engineers to a 1-0-1 weekend.

In her college debut on Friday night, Gruschow helped lead RPI to a tie against  Connecticut. Gruschow scored two goals and had a team high six shots on goal. The game ended in a 4-4 deadlock.

The next day also against UConn, the freshman tallied three assists, two coming in the second period alone in a 5-3 RPI win.

Gruschow is from Mechanicburg, PA. As a senior in high school, she played on the boys  team in addition to also competing in track and field and running cross country.

The Lady Engineers have two tough games this coming weekend against nationally ranked squads. Friday they are at third ranked Boston University and Saturday they compete against eighth ranked Northeastern University.
