Let's be honest, there aren't any sure bets at the Saratoga Race Course.  You can study the Daily Racing Form.  You can look at past performances or you can go with a trainer/jockey tandem.

But there seems to be a couple of sure-fire Saratoga bets that work for me every week.

The Birthday Bet and the Chad Brown theory.

When I'm making bets, I usually go with a solid theory and stick to it.  I make my usual birthday bet as an exacta box.  That is, I bet the date of my birthday (March 2nd or 3-2) as well as my wife's birthday (June 1st or 6-1).  Sometimes, I'll even get sassy and go with my son's birthday (June 27th or 6-2-7) as an exacta box.

On Friday, the birthday bet worked again!  It happened in the 3rd race as Caixa Eletronica (the #6) edged out Lucas Brady (#1) in a photo finish.  The 6-1 exacta paid $39.60.

I have also started to place a "Win" bet on Chad Brown.  He's the trainer from Mechanicville who now lives in Saratoga.  He's 2nd in the trainer standings with 19 wins (Todd Pletcher leads with 32 victories).  During the Saratoga meet, Brown has finished in the money (1st, 2nd or 3rd) an astonishing 71% of the time.

Brown won 2 races on Friday.  The 7th with Too Clever by Half which paid $5.40 to win.  He also won the 10th with Vee - who returned $8.10 on a win bet.  I bet $10 to win on both of these races and came out with a pretty decent return.
