Saratoga Race Course Delivers
Today was my first day back at Saratoga Race Course since Labor Day of 2019, the final day of the meet. I remember being there with my cousin, who lives in Cape Cod, MA. Eddie likes the horses and like many, he thinks Saratoga is a special track. That's why he makes an annual pilgrimage every Labor Day weekend. Like many, he's done it for decades.
This afternoon as I passed through the thousands of fans that came out to enjoy the first Friday of racing season in the Spa City, many come year after year. The UAlbany Alumni Association held their annual outing. Hundreds were adorned in purple and gold ready to make their bets and enjoy the spectacular weather. Sunshine and an amazing card of top horse racing was highlighted by the 9th race, the Forbidden Apple Stakes.
On my ventures, I spoke with a couple from Kentucky. Spur of the moment they just decided to come to Saratoga to see it. They had smiles on their faces the entire day. As did Julie and Amy from Saratoga. They stopped by the 104.5 The Team Remote Studio located in The Cutwater Stretch just to say hi.
People were in a great mood. They were so happy to be back in the joyous and festive atmosphere that the Saratoga Race Course delivers day after day. People were there to have fun and everybody was smiling!
It was a fun afternoon and the track allows us to bring you some great guests. During The Drive with Charlie and Dan, we met Acacia Courtney, host and analyst for NYRA's "Saratoga Live" handicapping show. Acacia was nice enough to give our listeners a few tips for the weekend and talked about how cool it was to be back at Saratoga with fans in the stands.
Then we hung out with Ali Skinner, Vice President of Communication for CDPHP. They sponsored free admissions for healthcare workers and first responders. CDPHP will be honoring our "Hometown Heroes" all weekend and all throughout the meet. They want you to nominate a "Hometown Hero," a healthcare worker, a law enforcement individual, a volunteer; a "Hometown Hero" that you think deserves a VIP trip to the Saratoga Race Course courtesy of CDPHP. Towards the end of the day, Director of Communications for the New York Racing Association, Pat McKenna stopped by. You could tell it had been a great two days to open the Saratoga meet. Pat talked about the special history of the Saratoga Race Course venue and how careful NYRA has been while increasing the amenities.
The stage has been set with the first two days. A good bet is that Saratoga will deliver another season to remember in 2021. Catch all of the live racing action every Friday through Sunday on 104.5 The Team and the FREE 1045 the Team App. Kevin Rich will be bringing you all of the live calls, plus he hit on 4 out of 6 picks today! 104.5 FM WTMM, The TEAM is your official home of Saratoga Racing this summer.
