Maple Hill graduate Jaime Schultz is now one step closer to the ultimate goal of reaching the Major Leagues. The right-hander has earned a spot on the AAA Durham Bulls of the Tampa Bay Rays system.

Schultz dominated in AA a season ago, striking out 168 batters in just 135 innings for the Montgomery Biscuits. He led the Southern League in strikeouts and earned an all-star appearance.

The Bulls' website projects him to be in the starting rotation along with Blake Snell, who is among the top prospects in the entire Rays system.

Schultz is a frequent guest on 104.5 The Team and we wish him well in Durham. He made 27 starts last season for the Biscuits. He is armed with a mid-to-upper 90s fastball and features a devastating breaking ball. Control is the only thing that can hold Schultz back, as he also walked 90 batters in those 135 innings.

Despite that, he looks like he's on the clear path to the majors sometime in this season or next.
