December 18th, 2021 was a day circled on the calendars of Capital Region lacrosse fans for months.
The Albany FireWolves took the floor at the Times Union Center for the first time this past Saturday evening, as they took on in-state rival, the Rochester Knighthawks. Though the visitor would end up coming out on top, it was the fans who were the true victors.

The FireWolves' scored the first goal of the game, on a shot from transition player Tony Malcom. Ironically, Malcolm was the same player who scored the team's first goal two weeks prior in Toronto. Rochester would come with an aggressive offensive attack throughout, and would end up playing spoiler for the home team.
That said, the night was still one to remember, from the pregame atrium party, to the epic on-floor introductions, to the ACTUAL goalie fight in the fourth quarter.
Thanks to the folks over at the FireWolves, here are some of my favorite shots from the home opener this weekend!
