Siena and UAlbany men's basketball teams are finished with the non-conference schedule and set to begin the season that counts.

The NCAA tournament doesn't have to be in town for a big-time college basketball atmosphere to pop-up in Albany. Eighteen times since 2001, the Siena Saints and the UAlbany Great Danes have matched up in men's basketball, resulting in some of the area's largest crowds of the season. So, why not find the best times and dates to encourage that excitement?

Bottom line: Siena will be a dangerous team in the MAAC tournament, but they need to clean up the unforced errors.

Head coach Carmen Maciariello has plenty of good parts including veteran leadership from Jackson Stormo and Jayce Johnson.

Just because a player leaves his school for the Transfer Portal, doesn’t mean the head coach or the University did anything wrong.

The Siena Saints battled to the very end against Quinnipiac last night and unfortunately came up just a bit short in a 77-71 loss in the MAAC Quarterfinals.

The Siena Saints are rolling at the perfect time. I really think Siena can win the MAAC and get into the NCAA Tournament this year.

The Great Danes and the Saints haven't met in men's basketball since 2017, when UAlbany won a thriller 74-69 at the former Times Union Center. The year prior, a sellout crowd shook the SEFCU Arena as the two teams matched up on the UAlbany campus for the first time since the 1970's. Now, after a four year hiatus, the match up is back.

One coach will take the sidelines for the very first time in the lead chair. The other looks to secure an allusive MAAC Championship that has been snagged from his team's grips the past two seasons. Fans will eagerly return to their seats that have collected dust since March of 2020. Tuesday night, empty basketball venues will be a thing of the past for the Capital Region's two Division I basketball programs.

The UAlbany and Siena men's basketball coaches, Dwayne Killings and Carm Maciariello, may not face each other on the court this year but they are continuing the tradition to team up for the 16th annual Coaches vs. Cancer Basket "Ball", Monday, October 4th at the Albany Capital Center. This is a tremendous evening of true community camaraderie centered around our two Division I college basketball programs. It is definitely one of the best events of its kind.
