Anyone who has been following the basketball-rich scene in upstate New York for a legitimate amount of time knows the name Talor Battle. Anyone who follows Big10 hoops certainly knows this name as well. While in high school at Bishop Maginn, Battle was a first team all New York State player and lead the Golden Griffins to a Section 2 championship, solidifying his 518 legacy...

Who would be your starting five basketball players in a hypothetical pickup game containing only hoopers from the 518? First things first, this is both an impossible and unfair conversation. The concept of creation is more scientific than trying to pin down five and only five players, but Thursday morning on "Big Board Sports" I figured I would try anyway...

It could be Talor Battle of Bishop Maginn. Maybe it’s Rashaun Freeman or Mark Lyons of Schenectady. It might be someone older, like Sam Perkins of Shaker, or Greg Koubek of Shenendehowa. It could be Albany’s Lionel Chalmers, or maybe Columbia’s Craig Forth or Alex Zampier...

It's a decision that Capital Region basketball fans have been waiting to hear for the last couple of months, and according to Mark Singelais of the Times Union, we finally have the answer: former Bishop Maginn standout Taran Buie will not be admitted to Siena College.

Tonight, Jimmer Fredette will become a professional basketball player as the NBA Draft is taking place down at the Prudential Center in New Jersey. We don't know where Jimmer will go but we do know where he came from.  The Capital Region.

Talor Battle's first-ever appearance in the NCAA Tournament didn't last long. Juan Fernandez hit a game-winning shot with 0.4 seconds left giving Temple a 66-64 victory over Penn State in a West Region matchup in Tucson.

The NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament gets underway on Thursday (well, really on Tuesday - but I'm not counting the "play-in" games) and the Capital Region will be well represented.

Glens Falls' Jimmer Fredette isn't the only former Section II basketball standout getting it done at the next level.  Bishop Maginn graduate Talor Battle has the Nitany Lions in a position to make their first NCAA Tournament appearance in 10 years.
