The Fray Butcher the National Anthem [VIDEO]

The Fray burst onto the scene in 2005 with their single Over My Head (Cable Car). Well, last night it sounded like the Fray were in over their heads when it came to performing the national anthem before the NCAA championship game.

I mean, ouch. What was that? It sounds to me like the Fray made up a completely new song and then casually threw the anthem lyrics over the top of it. I don’t mind when artists put their own twist on the performance, but this thing was too much. The only redeeming part of this performance was the guy with the drum. This guy goes out on National TV and plays a drum part that a second grader could pull off, and by his facial expression and body language, he knows it. All in all I would give this performance a D-, generally terrible and easily forgettable. One can only hope it was an ironic tribute to Whitney Houston.
