An economics professor has done some numbers and come up with a list of the most overpaid NBA players and while I think they are all overpaid, I have to agree with his list that some are especially overplayed. The list includes obvious choices like Kobe Bryant but has some surprises too, especially at the top of the list.

The economics professor is David Berri at  Southern Utah University who has written a book "The Wages of Wins" which reveals a statistical method he created to determine if a player is overpaid. Berri says:

NBA players are paid based largely on points.

He goes on to say that measuring by just points is too simple - you also have to include turnovers, rebounds, shooting percentage, and also fouls when determining salary. Based on his algorithm, he came up with this year's list of the most overpaid NBA players.

His number ten is easy to guess:

10. Tyrus Thomas, Charlotte Bobcats (overpaid by $12,459,225)

However number nine is a surprise:

9. Deron Williams, Brooklyn Nets (overpaid by $12,784,867)

I would have assumed that the top of the list would be Kobe Bryant, but number two is Kobe, overpaid by $19,693,258 - according to Berri. Number one is another shocker:

1. Rashard Lewis, Washington Wizards (overpaid by $21,167,231)

Wow - didn't expect that at all. Check out the entire list below and take the poll  - tell us what you think of the list.
