The UAlbany Great Danes football team closed out their 2016 spring season with the annual spring football game this weekend. In an adjusted scoring system, the defense came away with a 56-32 victory. The defense was led by DeSharnte Thompson who finished the scrimmage with seven tackles. The Great Danes running game was led by Elijiah Ibitokun-Hanks with forty five yards on eight carries. Coach Greg Gattuso assessed his team following the game

What you’re seeing out of our defense, hopefully going forward, is that we’re taller, more athletic, and there’s a lot of depth coming up, I like where we’re at on defense right now. You’ve got to win with defense and we’re getting much better

The Great Danes now shift their focus on the start of the 2016 regular season. Coach Gattuso's team kicks off the season on the road against the Buffalo Bulls of the MAC. Buffalo is a FBS school while Albany continues to compete at the FCS level. The Great Danes open their season September 17th against Holy Cross.
