The UAlbany Great Danes lacrosse team sits atop the national rankings this morning after Pennsylvania beat Duke and the Great Danes put a beating on both Syracuse and Drexel. Head Coach Scott Marr has been building this program to be a national powerhouse for years and it appears they are there, after receiving the programs first ever number one ranking.

This may be the best collegiate team ever assembled in the Capital Region. The return of face off specialist TD Lerian, Tewaaraton finalist Connor Fields, Goalie JD Caloruso and newcomer Tehoka Nanticoke there is no lack of talent for the Great Danes.

Looking ahead at the UAlbany schedule there are two teams that could be major hurdles. Number 2 Maryland on March 10th at College Park and number 11 Yale on April 22nd at New Haven Conn. That being said it's my opinion that if this team stays focused they will keep the top ranking all season and possibly through the Tournament. My only fear is a lack of focus that ends up in a loss to a "lesser team."
