ValleyCats to Hold Open Tryouts Friday, May 7th
Grab the old glove off of the shelf and loosen up the arm. You're getting the call.
As announced by the team on their website a few weeks ago, the Tri-City ValleyCats baseball team will be holding an open tryout this Friday, May 7th at 9AM. The tryouts will take place at the home of the ValleyCats, Joseph Bruno Stadium. Check-in begins at 8AM at the stadium, and those interested should register beforehand to get on the list. See the link below.
It's an exciting time for the ValleyCats as they embark on a new journey as a franchise, in a new league. With the discontinuation of the New York-Penn League, a short-season Single A league, the ValleyCats were forced to end their affiliation with the Houston Astros. This relationship lasted from 2002 (!) to 2020, and saw eight division championships and three league championships come to the Capital Region.
Not only that, some major names in the game of baseball called Tri-City home during their minor league careers. Cy Young winner Dallas Keuchel, MVP winner Jose Altuve and a number of World Series champions (Hunter Pence, JD Martinez, etc.) all played for the 'Cats at one time or another.
Now, it's your turn to join the team, as the ValleyCats join the 14-team Frontier League, and become the third member of the Atlantic Division. The 'Cats now have in-division rivals in the Equipe Quebec, who were founded in 2021, and the New York Boulders (insert Donkey from Shrek complimenting them).
So, get yourself out to the stadium on Friday morning. Click here to register for the tryout, and be prepared to bring your own equipment, and to stay for around two hours. That said, those two hours of your life could lead it to be changed forever.
