After nearly a month of the Major League Baseball season, there have been some interesting developments for both of the New York clubs.

Of course, the Mets have dealt with injuries, and have what many people think is the best team in the majors in their division: the 2021 World Series champion Atlanta Braves. But the Mets have done pretty well so far, hanging in the National League East race with the defending division champions, and you know that Steve Cohen will spend money later in the season if the race is there to be won.

The same cannot be said early for the Yankees, who are playing a little over .500 ball in the American League East. Unfortunately for them, this is not any of the other divisions, and New York has the Tampa Bay Rays–who have already tied one record for best start to a season (13-0) and are looking to set another one for best April–leading the way.

Tampa has already posted two long winning streaks, but the Rays are not the only team in the AL East off to a hot start: the Baltimore Orioles have posted a seven-game winning streak of their own, and Toronto is also playing well. Heck, as of April 25, even the Boston Red Sox were at .500 in the toughest division in baseball.

What does this mean, though, for both teams in the MLB futures odds? Most New York online sportsbooks have already adjusted their odds to make the Rays the favorite to win the AL East, and have slashed their odds and offers to win both the AL Pennant and World Series. The Yankees are still near the top of all of those futures, but at some point, if the other teams in the division keep rolling, those odds are going to start rising.

So which of the two teams have a better chance to win a pennant or the World Series?

Right now, you have to say it is the Mets. Cohen will spend money–something the Yankees have been reluctant to do in-season–and the Yankees might have to battle to even make the playoffs in the American League.

Will the Yankees turn it around at some point? Probably: they almost always go on a run and should win 90+ games according to agamble.com, the site that compares US gambling websites and offers.

But with the Rays, Astros, Blue Jays, Orioles, Mariners, Twins, and Guardians all looking likely to be in the race, among others like the Rangers, it looks far more likely the Mets will have the easier path to a pennant.
