Why Are Derby Finishers Avoiding The Preakness?
For the top finishers in the Kentucky Derby it seems to be all different reasons. For the true winner in my mind, Maximum Security, the team felt no need to run the horse with no Triple Crown at stake. Co-owner Gary West said this to the AP according to the Houston Chroncile earlier this week
really no need, not having an opportunity to run for the Triple Crown, to run a horse back in two weeks. Really, there are a lot of other Grade 1 races the rest of the year for 3-year-olds. So we'll let him gather himself and point to one of the other races. I don't know which one that will be, but it will definitely not be the Preakness
Kentucky Derby winner Country House will not run in the Preakness either according to his trainer Bill Mott
