Would You Deactivate Your Facebook And Instagram For $120?
So here's the question, how addicted to social media are you? We've all seen the memes and gifs asking if you could live without technology or social media for millions of dollars or to stay in a dream house but would you cut the cord for $120 or less?
There are reports circulating that Facebook which also owns Instagram will pay you to deactivate your account so they can see what the social media website's effects may be on upcoming elections. According to Elizabeth Dwoskin of The Washington Post, there are even potentially different levels of pay.
Then an article in The Verge broke down the scope of this study and exactly why Facebook would embark on such research.
Facebook announced that it was partnering with outside researchers to study the impact its social media products have on society during the upcoming US presidential election. Facebook expects around 200,000 to 400,000 users will opt into the project. Once they’ve opted in, the company will be able to see how they interact with its products, including both Facebook and Instagram.
“To continue to amplify all that is good for democracy on social media, and mitigate against that which is not, we need more objective, dispassionate, empirically grounded research,” Facebook explained in a blog post. “That’s why today we are announcing a new research partnership to better understand the impact of Facebook and Instagram on key political attitudes and behaviors during the US 2020 elections.”
So would you do it? Would you shut down Facebook and Instagram for somewhere between $10 to $120? I would love an excuse to unplug until after the Presidential election! So if Zuckerberg is reading this feel free to slip into my DM's.
