A mere three games into this 60 game season and we already have a COVID-19 outbreak in MLB and it directly affects the New York Yankees. The Miami Marlins have had at least 13 players and coaches test positive for the coronavirus. This after playing a weekend series in Philadelphia where the Yankees were scheduled to play tonight.

ESPN's Jeff Passan is reporting it's 11 players and three coaches on the Marlins who have tested positive for COVID-19 meaning their game tonight home opener against the Baltimore Orioles has been postponed. Since the Marlins were in the visitor locker rooms in Philadelphia last night the Yankees' trip to Philly has also been postponed.

Marly Rivera's use of the word "canceled" causes me the most discomfort here.

I've never been so focused on the nuance between the words "postponed" and "canceled" the way I am now. Obviously this doesn't bode well for the MLB's ability to complete this season but if you look at other sports there always seems to be a set back at the beginning of the comeback. The UFC had fighters and coaches in their first fight back but have been fairly well off since. NBA's Bubble got busted a few times with strip club visits and food deliveries BUT no positive COVID-19 tests since they've locked down. With any luck, this is the issue that we look back on at the World Series this season. Even though I am far more confident this is a very bad omen for the season.
