It was an incredibly special season for the UAlbany football team.  They made their first ever trip to the FCS Semifinals and despite a blowout 59-0 loss on the road at South Dakota State, there is absolutely no reason for the Great Danes to hang their heads low.  They accomplished so much as several players and head coach Greg Gattuso won multiple awards which were all well deserved.  Below is my quick take on this as seen in The Times Union:

The UAlbany football team and program should be congratulated for an historic season despite a lopsided loss in the FCS Semifinals to South Dakota State a team that barring the unforeseen will win back-to-back National Titles. Jackrabbits are that good and they didn't take the Great Danes lightly. Head Coach Greg Gattuso and UAlbany pulled off the unprecedented season that sets the stage for a bright future because when you produce a record-breaking season it attracts the high caliber of player who wants to play at UAlbany. The Great Danes lose a lot of starters on defense but plenty of starters return on offense including Reese Poffenbarger who is the best quarterback in the CAA Conference.

I am so excited to see what 2024 will bring for Coach Gattuso and company.  Some players will return and some will most likely enter the portal.  One thing is for sure, nobody will ever forget this special 2023 season.  My partner MJ is only his second year doing play by play with UAlbany and he will always remember this.  I have been doing play by play with UAlbany for over 30 years and this was arguably the football team's greatest season in program history.
