Syracuse basketball fans were not happy to receive the news late Tuesday night that a five star recruit would no longer be playing for the Orange. High school junior standout Dior Johnson took to social media to announce that he was reopening his college basketball recruitment

In February 2020, Johnson verbally committed to play for Syracuse. Johnson's commitment made him the highest ranked recruit the Orange had been able to sign since Carmelo Anthony signed with Syracuse for the class of 2002. As Syracuse fans remember, Anthony helped lead Syracuse to the school's first national title in his fresman season. Anthony's number has been retired by Syracuse, the athletic center now bears his name and his NBA career is poised to enter a seventeenth season this December.

Another potential reason for Johnson's decommitment is the potential for him to play in the NBA sooner. High school seniors were required to wait one year past their graduating class before becoming eligible for the NBA. The rule has been in place since 2006.

How good is Dior Johnson? You can check out some of his highlights below.

The Orange are scheduled to tip off their season December 8th against Rutgers.
