Earlier this week, in a controversial decision with wide, sweeping implications for sports as we know them today, the National Labor Relations Board ruled in favor of Northwestern football players who had argued that they are employees of the school, more than just students of it.

Pundits on both sides of the ruling jumped in quickly to argue over what their new-found right to unionize will mean - from how the decision could lead to player payment, to how it could spell the doom of non-profit collegiate sports.
