Sabathia, who has already been put on the 15-day disabled list with some cartilage issues in his right knee, will now be out until at least July 1, according to general manager Brian Cashman.

Cashman spoke with Buster Olney for his podcast and said:

"It's an unpredictable time frame," Cashman said. "I'd say you're talking at least six weeks until you see him on a major league mound again."

He also added that if anything prior to July 1 is predicted, the Yankees would be setting themselves up for disappointment.

The Yanks are already dealing with the loss of Ivan Nova (season, Tommy John) and Michael Pineda (pine tar suspension, teres major). Losing Sabathia gives them just two experienced starters in Hiroki Kuroda and rookie Masahiro Tanaka.

Despite the Yanks need for pitching, Cashman says he doesn't expect to make a deal. The Yanks have been using David Phelps, Vidal Nuno and Chase Whitley.
