Can Jose Canseco Save The Home Run Derby?

The Home Run Derby has lost some of its luster in recent years. Major League Baseball has tried to tinker with the format of the event in an effort to make it more exciting, however it still doesn’t have the same appeal as it did when Griffey was winning it in his backwards hat, or even when McGuire was sending moon shots into downtown Boston. Well, today Jose Canseco chimed in with an idea of his own: let him get a hack at it.

That’s right, baseballs ambassador of embarrassment tweeted today that he “would win the MLB homerun derby tonight if I was given chance.” Now, I think we can all agree that Jose is talking out of his needle mark ridden ass, but it does beg the question: would you be more interested in the Home Run Derby if they let retired stars take some cuts?
