Did The NY Giants Make The Right Move Benching Daniel Jones?
The New York Giants made a brilliant move by finally benching Daniel Jones. They will go with Tommy DeVito instead of Drew Lock which has the fanbase reaction split right down the middle. DeVito won some quality games last year and became an instant fan favorite. This is obviously a move by Brian Daboll because he is coaching for his job. Below is my quick take on this as seen in The Times Union:
The Giants benching of quarterback Daniel Jones comes as no surprise to me, but starting Tommy DeVito does because Drew Lock has a $5 Million contract. Fans love DeVito so they should be happy and especially if the Giants can win some games down the stretch of the season. If the Giants don't turn it around Co-owner John Mara may have to rethink his vote of confidence for head coach Brian Daboll because he wanted to see improvement this season but so far there has been no improvement. The Giants are 2-8 and I don't see a path to seven wins which would exceed last year's win total by one game.
I will be the first to admit that I do feel very badly for Daniel Jones. He had his moments and had a terrific 2022 season overall. Unfortunately with his injuries and poor play recently the Giants organization really had no choice. I wish him nothing but the best. The Giants fans deserve better as it is yet another bad season for them which has been a theme for the past decade plus.
