Free Agent Chris Davis’ Performance Level is Unpredictable, Says Buster Olney [AUDIO]
Free agent Chris Davis is one of the biggest names and also one of the biggest crap-shoots, explained ESPN's Buster Olney.
"He’s a really interesting guy," said Olney, to "Armen and Levack", on 104.5 The Team. "I wrote this during the summer, when he becomes a free agent, he’s destined to make some people look really stupid and some people really smart. But I can’t tell you which way that’s going to go.
"The people who might look smart are the people who might invest in him. He’s got 159 homers over the last four years, nobody has hit more. On the other hand, he’s had these valleys of performance. He hit .196 in 2014, strikes out 200 times. You could spend a lot of money on him and if he comes in and hits a lot of home runs like you think, you’re going to look brilliant. If he comes in and he looks like the Chris Davis of 2014, you could look like an idiot.
"When you stand next to him he looks like the Incredible Hulk and it doesn’t matter where he ends up, he’s going to hit home runs. To me, he’s a great fit for the St. Louis Cardinals. They’re looking for power, and he could play left field or right field. Boy, would he be perfect for what they need now!"
