How Big Was The Crowd For The Albany Firebirds Home Opener?
It could not have gone any better for the Albany Firebirds home opener. The crowd was electric and the Firebirds came back after being down at halftime with a thrilling 62-59 win on a game winning field goal. For the owners Andy Guelcher Richie Szesnat and company, who I am very good friends with, they had to be very pleased. Head coach Damon Ware did a great job in his first game as head coach of the Albany Firebirds and he even coached with Orlando last season so you know he wanted to win this game. Below is my quick take on this as seen in the Times Union:
The atmosphere for Saturdays Albany Firebirds game was phenomenal and it will only get better. From the block party to the over 5 thousand fans inside MVP it all reminded me of the way it should be and not the way it was last season under the Antonio Brown watch. Still a long way to go with building back up the attendance but it was a great start. And the game was incredible with the Firebirds storming back to win in overtime over Orlando. The fans who were there will all be back. A salute to the different ownership group because it's already starting to pay off.
Next up is another home game at the MVP Arena Thursday night at 8 p.m. I expect big crowds all season long for home games and the Capital Region deserved a fresh start with a new team that has the same old history of years past for Arena Football.
