The UAlbany football team opens up their season this Saturday night at home vs the Fordham Rams.  It will be the Great Danes first home opener since 2014.  Although I'm not a fan of the timing as it will also be Travers Saturday at Saratoga, I'm optimistic that there will be a decently big crowd on hand.  From what I've been hearing and what Coach Greg Gattuso has said, the defense has gotten a whole lot better.  This is huge news as the defense was a big weakness last year for this team.  Reese Poffenbarger will be in year two and had a bunch of talented receivers to throw the ball to.  Last year in September, Fordham beat UAlbany in a shootout thriller 48-45 at Fordham.

MJ and I had on Fordham football's head coach Joe Conlin earlier this morning ahead of the game on Saturday.  Below is our full conversation with him.

We also had on UAlbany head coach Greg Gattuso kicking off our weekly segment with him driven by CDTA right here on Big Board Sports.  Below is our full interview with him.

I do think the Great Danes will be much better this season.  They brought a lot of guys back and had great success in the transfer portal.  They were a much better team than their record indicated in 2022.  Although they finished 3-8 overall and were 1-5 in close games, I am confident in Coach Gattuso in year 10 to turn things around.  Saturday is a must win for UAlbany to get the season started right.
