How Should New York Met Fans Judge Their Start To The 2024 Season?
The New York Mets have been off to a great start this season based on their pre season expectations. They are .500 right now but that looks even more impressive after starting 0-5. First year manager Carlos Mendoza has done a really nice job with this squad and managing his personnel too. Pete Alonso will stay slugging and Lindor will get his average up, but thru thirty games or so I think most Mets fans will take this start.
Two former New York Yankees have been killing it this season thus far. Harrison Bader is arguably the Mets best hitter and has been extremely consistent both in the field and at the plate. I love the energy and swagger he brings on a daily basis. He is the ultimate clubhouse guy and always brings the positivity.
The other is starting pitcher Luis Severino. He is coming off of one of the worst seasons he has ever had in his career with an ERA of over seven. Now after a horrible first start with the Mets, he has bounced back nicely. He took a no hitter into the seventh inning the other night and looks razor sharp. He has his fastball velocity near triple digits and his off speed slider and changeup combo has been lethal.
I fully expect the Mets to compete for a wild card spot and be in the middle of the pack in a very competitive NL East division. They will exceed both their fans and MLB experts pre season expectations when all is said and done.
