Congratulations to former Shen basketball standout Kevin Huerter, who was named to the Team USA U-18 National Team. The team will compete in Chile at the FIBA U-18 championships from July 19-23.

It's a huge deal for Huerter, who will play at Maryland this fall.

Who else has come through the Team USA program at the U-18 level? Carmelo Anthony, Kyrie Irving, Andrew Iguodala, Grant Hill, Michael Beasley, and Kemba Walker.

Not a bad blueprint to follow for a kid from Clifton Park. Huerter led the Plainsmen to the NYS Class AA state championship as a junior and helped lead the Plainsmen back to the regional final as a senior. He averaged more than 21 points a game this year and could have averaged more if Shen hadn't been up by a lopsided margin late in most games.

It helps for Huerter that Mark Turgeon, his head coach at Maryland, is also on the coaching staff at Team USA.
