For the next month, we are going to be glued to the Major League Baseball mock drafts to see where Shenendehowa senior Ian Anderson is pegged.

It's been two consecutive years that the Capital Region has had a first-round pick. Shaker graduate Jeff Hoffman went No. 9 to the Blue Jays two years ago while Garrett Whitley went No. 13 to the Rays last season. He is a Niskayuna native.

For Anderson? John Manuel at Baseball America has him goign No. 18 to the New York Yankees.

New York re-enforced its belief in its acumen of evaluating pitchers by getting strong early results from last year’s first-rounder James Kaprielian, even with him landing on the disabled list at high Class A this year. Look for them to stick with arms at the top, even in a year shy with good college arms.

Wouldn't that make the Capital Region happy? For Yankee fans that want to see the farm system grow, this is a good move.
