Another Favorite Mall Store Could Be Closing Soon In the Capital Region?
In 2025 it seems to be the new normal to report that things are downsizing or closing when it comes to retailers. There is an ever growing list of stores that we have to say goodbye to after poor earnings so far this year. While it's just the nature of the business, it's never fun to have to report these things.
Just recently we reported on CVS closing more locations including a few here in the Capital Region. They join Rite Aid is downsizing how many stores they're operating across the country. Not even banks are immune from these closures, with Flagstar announcing the closure of 60 branches this past spring.

One of the biggest stores to announce closures was Forever 21, who now say they aren't going anywhere. They still have a large customer base online, which seems to be where many other stores are finding their business these days. That would include the popular women's retailer, Torrid.
Torrid Closing Stores
In the Capital Region Torrid has a location inside of Colonie Center. The retail store for plus size women has been around since 2001and currently operates over 600 locations around the United States. According to The Street, they're going to be closing 180 locations that aren't performing well.
As of right now there isn't any word on which locations they'll be closing, so no word if the location inside of Colonie Center will be affected by this announcement. Colonie Center isn't without it sown problems, with the announcement in January that they could face foreclosure after their lender filed suit agains the real estate company that owns the mall.

The good news for Torrid is that there is no foreclosure concerns for them. They're even sent to remodel and refresh 130 of their locations this year to bring them a more updated look. They also say that much of their customer base is buying online, which is what is forcing them to close the in person locations. They've still got the people, they're just finding new ways to get what they want.
