Jets Blown Out in Preseason Opener
The Todd Bowles era began with a thud this week as the New York Jets lost 23-3 in the preseason opener to the Detroit Lions on the road at Ford Field.
This drubbing comes after the tumultuous week the Jets had, where they lost probable starting quarterback Geno Smith for 6-10 weeks after he broke his jaw in a locker room altercation.
Ryan Fitzpatrick went 2-3 in limited action for the Jets at QB, throwing for 16 yards. Bryce Petty went 10-18 in his professional debut. However, he only threw for 50 yards.
The Jets were able to run the ball effectively as Bilal Powell and Chris Ivory had 60 yards on 14 combined carries. But beyond that, the rest of the running backs had just seven net yards.
The Lions had no problem scoring early, as Matthew Stafford connected with Golden Tate less than three minutes in for the games first touchdown.
The Jets will play the Falcons next on Aug. 21.
