Late Bucket Leads Siena Past Penn State in CBI
Siena is now just one of 44 Division I basketball programs still playing.
The Saints earned a 54-52 win over Penn State in the quarterfinals of the College Basketball Invitational (CBI) on Monday night. With the win, Siena will play Wednesday against Illinois State in the semifinals. Tip-off is 7 p.m. at the Times Union Center.
Evan Hymes was the guy who stepped up late for the Gold and Green, using a shot off the backboard with 3.2 seconds remaining to beat the Nittany Lions, who see their season end at 16-18.
Siena, picked to finish 10th in the MAAC Conference, improves to 17-17, and has raised its win total from last season by nine games.
Lavon Long had 17 for the Saints and Brett Bisping added 12 points and 12 rebounds.
Siena is now 5-1 against BCS schools at the Times Union Center in the last 10 years.
