Did The College Football Playoff Committee Get It Right This Year?
This 2024 college football season has been arguably the wildest and most entertaining to date. I truly believe the selection committee got it right this year with the brand new 12 team playoff format. SMU deserved to be in over Alabama as the Crimson Tide had three losses. I can't wait to see my Nittany Lions in person host and take on SMU on Saturday December 21st at 12 noon. I love college football and the more games we can have especially during the holiday season than the better. Below is my quick take on this as seen in The Times Union:
I applaud the efforts of the College Football Playoff Committee for leaving Alabama out of the expanded playoff picture. Alabama had lost three games this season and didn’t make the SEC Championship and by all standards did not have a good season. SMU ended up losing by a field goal to Clemson in the ACC title and only had two loses this season. Alabama can’t get in because of name recognition they need to earn it. This season they didn’t earn it. The committee got it right.
There are so many intriguing matchups and so many different teams can win. Oregon is the clear favorite but they don't have the easiest draw. Georgia played the toughest schedule of anyone. You can't count out MJ's Notre Dame Fighting Irish. Let the chaos and awesome games begin of the first ever 12 team college football playoff. I hope the games are close and competitive but I have a funny feeling that most of them will be.
