Matt Gage Promoted to Giants AA Affiliate

Well, move over Jaime Schultz, Murphy Smith, and Jeff Hoffman, the Capital District has another player now in AA: Broadalbin-Perth and Siena product Matt Gage (San Francisco Giants).

Gage, a left-handed pitcher, went 4-4 with a 4.07 ERA for the Single-A Augusta Green Jackets before the promotion to AA Richmond. He was drafted in the 10th round of the 2014 Draft.

He threw 77.1 innings, striking out 71. In 2014, he helped lead the Saints to the NCAA tournament. He matched wits with TCU ace Brandon Finnegan in Game 1 of the Regionals. Finnegan was drafted in the first round, and then starred for the Royals in the playoffs.

Schultz (Rays), Smith and Hoffman (Blue Jays) are all in AA while Capital Region natives JP Sportman (A's), Branden Cogswell (A's), Brian O'Keefe (Cardinals), and Justin Brantley (Indians) are all in some level of Single-A ball.

Tommy Kahnle of Shaker is currently in the major leagues for the Colorado Rockies.
