The New York Mets have already been forced to fire newly hired General Manager Jared Porter due to reports of him sending a female reporter explicit photos. Porter has acknowledged sending unsolicited text messages including one where he exposed himself in 2016. The Mets have fired Porter this morning for those actions.

ESPN's Jeff Passan and Mina Kime

Porter was just hired by the Mets on December 13th and about a month later is no longer with the team due to this incident coming to light. ESPN had reportedly learned of the incident and even acquired a copy of the text messages as early as December of 2017 but decided not to pursue the story at the request of the foreign female reporter. She was worried that she would face backlash in her home country.

Porter reportedly sent over 60 text messages between July and August of 2016. When the female reporter stopped replying he sent 17 pictures including a photo of a naked penis. The Mets and Cubs, where Porter was employed at the time of the event have both stated they were unaware of the incident until last night.

The Mets GM search will begin again unless they already have their man. When the Mets hired Porter the assistant GM of the Boston Red Sox Zach Scott was a finalist for the Mets job and was hired as the assistant GM of the Mets. So he could possibly step into the role now.
