The New York Mets made the World Series this past year, but they weren't without flaws. The Mets struggled on offense for the first half of the season, and they didn't have a great bridge between great starting pitcher and young closer Jeurys Familia.

But they addressed one of those this week:

The deal is for $12 million over two years. The 30-year-old has spent seven years in the major leagues. Six of those were spent in Philadelphia and one in Pittsburgh.

Just how good was his second half last year for the Pirates?

He has a career 3.58 ERA across 316.1 innings. The lefty specialist role for the Mets is a big piece to the puzzle. They need someone to be able to come into tight games in the NL East and get out Bryce Harper of the Nationals and Freddie Freeman of the Braves.

The Mets open the 2016 season on April 3 at the Kansas City Royals.
