After firing head coach Al Golden earlier in the year after a 58-0 defeat to Clemson, the worst loss in Miami football history, the program has decided on its new coach for the future. Sources have told 1045 The Team that Mark Richt will be named the new Hurricane's coach at the end of the week. Coach Richt has spent the past fifteen seasons as the head coach of the George Bulldogs, where his one hundred forty five wins in his first fifteen seasons rank fourth all time in FBS history. It is unclear if Richt will coach Georgia in its upcoming bowl game. Richt has close connections to Miami and South Florida. He played football at Boca Raton High School and played for the Hurricanes from 1979-82, when he was mostly a backup to Pro Football Hall of Famer Jim Kelly. The Miami Hurricanes football team this year finished at 8-4 but have yet to play in ACC championship game since the game began in 2005. The Hurricanes joined the league in 2004 and have yet to win a conference title. The program had won four consecutive Big East prior to joining the ACC.
